If you plan to claim export incentives, benefit from government export promotion schemes, or simply want credibility in front of international buyers, you'll eventually run into one requirement: the RCMC (Registration-Cum-Membership Certificate). Here's what it is and how to get one.
An RCMC certifies that your business is a registered member of the relevant Export Promotion Council (EPC) or Commodity Board for your product category. Many DGFT benefits, duty concessions, and export incentive schemes require a valid RCMC as a prerequisite — without it, you may be excluded from schemes your business would otherwise qualify for.
India has dozens of product-specific Export Promotion Councils and Boards — for example, APEDA for agricultural and processed food products, Spices Board for spices, Tea Board and Coffee Board for their respective commodities, MPEDA for marine products, and EEPC India for engineering goods. If your product doesn't fall under any commodity-specific board, FIEO (Federation of Indian Export Organisations) acts as the council of last resort for general exporters. Choosing the correct council matters — an RCMC from the wrong body may not be accepted for scheme benefits tied to your actual product category.
Most RCMCs are valid for five financial years from the year of issue and need to be renewed thereafter. If your product range expands into a new category, you may also need to get that category added to your existing RCMC rather than waiting for renewal.
Holding the correct RCMC keeps your business eligible for the export incentive schemes and council-backed trade fair opportunities that are otherwise closed off to unregistered exporters.
BuyGenix Solutions handles RCMC registration with the right Export Promotion Council for your product category, end to end.
